Yeah, so much for new rules to increase the car count. It's still the same players for the most part.

I think I will wait for more then one race to give a thought on if the class is going to the wayside.

I'd wait until at least Joliet before calling the obituaries.

So it wasn't the valve springs and titanium keepers that kept everyone from showing up last year?
How many not coming back because of the rule change?

Damn, you mean I still need a cage, license, and safety equipment to be a top runner in RS?
I already cut the cage out of my car.

I just got the car out of the chassis shop. It only got a 6-Point Moly bar. I knew that keeping the class in the 10's was far fetched. We're only legal to 10 flat so I guess we're not going to be a front runner. I doubt I could get it there anyhow, this being our first year in RS.
I was thinking we could go 10.30's on a good day, but by the time we join the show at the 3rd race that might qualify us in the last spot.

I have been skeptical of the results of the new rules. I however support efforts to open the class up and attract more cars. I don’t have an answer so I chose to abide by the changes and see what happens.
After the first face I must say that I am disappointed. Instead of bringing the costs down I feel as though the rules changes will end up causing more destruction of expensive parts. We are going to incur a lot of costs to be competitive and run the entire series.
The fact that we ran those numbers was no surprise to several of us. I understand that the people responsible for the changes were not happy with the results. There in lies some of the problem. There is/was no communication between the rules committee and racers in the Real Street class.
Now we have a problem, the valve train rules for the pushrod cars are junk. Like the stock cam no one runs this junk on a good street engine.
The sponsor involvement in the class is huge. I would guess that it will disappear if we look like a sport compact series. With everyone breaking and no side by side races. Not to mention 4 to 6 cars in the class.
I have enjoyed this class. It’s been fun. But it’s not fun to race with the rules the way they are.

Where have you heard that before?

It's only a matter of time before you figure out how to make that work.

Again... that's been said in the past.

It "was" fun until some items were shown a blind eye whereas other items were targeted like a cruise missle.
The old "forrest from the trees" attittude...

I submitted my feedback regarding the rules and this is exactly what I stated. I figured it would actually cost someone more to be competitive.

Breaking decent parts at 8500 rpm is ok, and to be expected. Breaking junk-ass parts at 6000 is dumb and pleases noone.
These rules changes were a classic case of the tail wagging the dog. Either that or I'm confused about who is the tail and who is the dog. Over the last couple years the serious guys in the class have invested close to 6 figures into their programs, and yet not one of them wanted anything to do with any of these changes. Instead the rules were based off of a few internet racers (that havent spent a fraction of what the guys committed to the class have) who said they would race if the class was slowed down. I asked once last weekend where all the internet racers were and I was quickly reminded that this was the race track.
I think the NMRA needs their own video game that mirrors the racing series. There should be enough weather/horsepower/weight/track conditions data to put into the game to make the racing as close as it is on the track. You could run all the heads-up classes with Doc calling the action over your computer speakers. Put the game on-line that way all the internet racers can have something to do (we all know they cant be left out  ) and then leave the actual racing series to the people who invest in it.
