If this event is to draw alot of cars why only run 1/8 mile??? An outlaw 8.5 sounds cool, but I wouldn't make a 3hr drive to run 1/8 mile.

I need that long pause after I smack 4th gear to reflect on how I sucked on the first 3....:)

Then you need more gear!!!!! :D :p

and it's 1/8th mile, cuz 26x8.5 get awfully skinny at 130+ mph......in the 1/8th.  Oh yeah not to mention if someone breaks...not as long a cleanup.

The Outlaw 10.5 "movement" originated in the South. There tend to be more 1/8th mile tracks than 1/4 mile (not as much flat land as in the Northern part of the country). Also the MPH of the cars is slower than if they were to run the 1/4, which I believe helps with the event insurance. Many of the racers also prefer 1/8th mile (reduced wear and tear on parts, etc.).

Keep in mind that the Edgewater series is modeling its rules after the series being run at Ohio Valley Raceway in Louisville, Ky (www.ohiovalleydragway.com).

Don't let the 1/8th mile race prevent you from coming. These cars are just plain wicked to watch, especially comsidering the times they have been running. 6.00's and quicker in the 1/8th on an extremely limited tire is pretty cool.

Thanks BK you said exactly what i would have and you are correct on all points :)
Between track insurance & parity with the existing racers at Ohio Valley we really didnt have a choice. It was 1/8th mile or nothing and from the response we've gotten from the racers i dont think there will be any problems with car count :)

I'm getting to be an 1/8 mile convert.

The event moves faster, the racing is closer, and from a personal standpoint it's a lot easier on parts.

Yes, these guys are all correct. We ran the 26x8.5 class in OSCA last year and it was a blast. The analogy is NMRA super street outlaw on 28x10.5's in the 1/4 mile is to OSM 26x8.5 tire in the 1/8th mile. Believe me, at close to 130 MPH on these tires, the cars are skating, and the 900 HP drivetrain is just begging to break them loose. It's a riot!

Oh yeah, and what Tim said... Nobody lifts!
