President Bush came to the CBOT today, where I work, and did a little tour of the trading floor.

I managed to squeeze my way up to the front row (they had a fenced-off security perimeter). I scored an autograph and actually got to speak to him. Knowing he’s a former owner of the Texas Rangers and a big baseball fan, I said to him, “Mr. President, how about those White Sox?” He responded: “That was great. Fantastic. I was very happy to see them win it even though, you know, I was pulling for Houston…”

The building was on total lock-down with Secret Service everywhere. Metal detectors, bomb sniffing dogs, etc....What a production....It must cost the government millions just to keep him safe where ever he goes. Every once in the while one of their sport coats would come open just enough that you see that most of them were packing sub-machine guns like a mac-10 or similiar. They all had ear pieces in and talked into their wrists, that crap you see on TV is real. They were all pretty very polite and professional but at the same time you could just see that they were not to be screwed with.

Whether or not you agree with the man’s politics, it was still a pretty amazing experience meeting the most powerful man in the world.

I've took pics with the camera phone, but they're too big to post here and I don't have time to re-size them today....

I think it would be cool to meet him.....
You would have probably got a bigger response if you asked him about the LongHorns game..... That was a good game....

Those secret service guy's are cool, wish I knew it was as easy it was to get into it years ago, I would not be in the Marine Corps now.

Lucky you Scott.

Actually, almost everyone there was Hookin Horns and asking him about that.....

I knew he was a big baseball fan, so I figured why not?

Thats really cool Scott that you had that opportunity. Most people in the racing world dont know this about me but i was aux police back home for about 5 years. When Clinton came to Princeton to give a speech we got word he was flying into the small airport near my house, so a few of us were asked if we wanted to help with the presidential detail. At the time i was still wanting to be a police officer so i jumped at the chance. Now im not very political but standing there on the side of the road while the presidents motorcade drove by inches from me was a pretty neat experience. I had a sense of pride as he went by. Of course i would have felt better if id of had a vest but oh well lol. Guess we were considered expendable :p It was still a neat thing to be a part of. At least you got to talk to him!

Scotty,

Greeting from a sandbox. That is absolutely awesome that you got to speak to the President. Whether you like the President or not, it is still really awesome to see him in person. I have never seen him in person, but I can say from reading some of his speeches to my co-workers, he is all about finishing what he starts and keepoing everybody safe.

Take care,

Jim

I'm jealous Scotty. I'm a dub-ya supporter. I went to see him when we lived in Cincy and he was in town for his re-election tour. Came within 25 yards of the guy... I spoke to him too, but I don't think he heard me over the others... :)
