View Full Version : Question about flywheels
If you took your flywheel to have it turned(cut, resurfaced...or whatever) would it be possible to take enough off, or have something else happen druing this time, to cause a vibration in the motor after it is installed.
Basically here is the deal.
I put a new clutch in my 94 GT car has a TKO tranny, New Spec stage 2 clutch. replaced pilot bearing, and t/o bearing as well. The car NEVER had a problem before with vibrations. The flywheel was mine from before so it was good and balanced to begin with. The only things changed were the pressure plate, disc, pilot bearing, t/o bearing, and the flywheel was turned. It does it clutch in or out, In gear or out of gear, car moving or not moving, from about 2600rpm to 5000rpm(free revving or driving down the road) then it goes away above that or below it. Im open to suggestions. Spec says its the flywheel............ I was leaning to the pressure plate................ but like I said Im open to suggestions........

well, the general idea behind resurfacing a flywheel is to take enoujgh metal off the high spots to makes it flat again. I don't think and have never experienced a vibration from a flywheel from resurfacing. Not saying it isnt possible, but the flywheel would have to be out by a severe amount in order for that to happen.
I would lean towards the pressure plate myself. I have a shop called "House of Balance" near me that could check it in a matter of an hour if it were mine.
good luck!
Spec has told me they will check both if I send them..............but shipping there and back wont be cheap. Waiting to hear if they might pick up half.......or all of it if it turns out to be the pressure plate. I just find it hard to believe that just a simple resurfacing could do some damage like that, especially when it was fine before............. I dunno........... was thinking about trying a different flywheel........just hate to spend the $$ on one and the time to pull it all only to find out it was the pressure plate......

I've had this same problem several times and it has always been the pressure plate.
What kind of bellhousing? Are you certain the tranny went back in straight?
Ken
Yeah Ken.......its just a stock style bellhousing(for the tremec) so there should be no real reason to index it........... I wouldnt think so anyways.........
Teddy, what brand/brands have you had this problem with?
Thanks again guys for the info..........

I Know people that have had problems with new Spec pressure plates being warped. Buying anything Spec seems to be 50/50.
