since the rules dont say anything about running an un-modified carrier, does this mean you can weld the spider gears in the stock trac-lok and make it the poor mans spool? i just looked at the rules and i sure didnt see aything stating that it had to be "un-modified" :D
at this stage im sure any little thing might help.

Your problem is with NHRA rules on that idea.....
I know people do it, but let Darwin win out....

Is there a rule on how many clutches or shims are stuffed in the carrier?

Nope but I exploded two trac-locs in one season when I ran F/S back in 02. Split the carrier to two pieces and ruined the ring and pinion as well as the cover. I would suggest a locker of some type.

I'm sorry, I know its been beat to death but why would you want to take out an inexpensive bullet-proof set up and replace it with a 40lb $500 piece. I hope the starting line crew has a ton of equipment to clean up exploded rear-ends.:(

humm I don't know......maybe more rear differential parts sales..........credited to NMRA....!!! That would be my guess. Buying a cheap spool compared to buying a $400-$500 locker....sales my friend sales is what its all about, it's the same reason C-4 autos arent allowed in Factory Stock and Pure Street. Or at least its a reasonable assumption....

yea... i know but I couldn't resist!..........I don't stir up (nowhere near) as much hate and discontent as I use too lol
its all about sponsors......and money! no doubt about it. But thats kewl without it there would be no NMRA or FFW or anyother raceing organzations. So if the classes have to write rules to where sponsors can sell a few parts, (not saying they really did)then more power to em!

Nice find, Tim.. But the Aurburn Pro will explode like a hand grenade on the first pass (hooking hard).
It stinks that DL dosent offer a 8.8 33spl diff, then again (on a f/s type car), why is 33 spl even neccassary?
-Mike
Quick question: Is it possible on a '99-'04 to fit a 275/50/15 on available
8-8.5" width wheels and still be in the wheel well like the rules state? It also says the rear has to be within an inch of stock length. What gives?

Well I run 33 spline strange axels....after breaking stock, then 31 spline strange axels, I needed something stronger.

Ed I have a buddy whom we put one of these in his car. Its a 95 gt stick car making 320 to the wheels(less than a F/S car) and it EXPLODEDon the third pass. It took out the ring and pinion with it. And of course, its a high performance part(BS) and carries no warranty.

All of us who have 99+ cars and run the 50 series have never had a problem in tech..........

WOW...
A few low ten second NHRA Stockers I dealt with ran these and I know they make gobs of power in heavy cars...
We ran one in a 3900 pound Trans Am and it worked flawlessly for nearly ten years...

I exploded two of them during the 02 season with probably 10-12 passes on each. Course my car had to weigh 3450 that year. I have one in my 97 GT for now but I am a bit nervous about it. No passes on it yet.

You just never know. A friend of mine was running low 9's on a 31 spline Aubrun Pro differential. He had it in there for years. He then upgraded to a 9" Pro gear rear end and on the second pass, it grenaded.

This is the general thought I have been getting on other boards and from other people/shops.

so was these that exploded stock or were there added clutches in those, I can see one with added clutchs exploding........especially at that weight, but two of em. Hell I've ran nitrous on my old coupe on slicks with stock trac loc with 3:73's and pulled the front tires and it didnt explode! weird!
Of course I only made like 3 passes on the gas...and my car only weighted around #3200..with a best of 1.63 60ft...
(that was with ported E7's, stock cam, roller rockers, it ran 6.96 and 6.97 back to back....of course our local track is 60ft shorter than regular 1/8 mile....why......cause our landing area was shortened and you have to make a immediate right at the end of the cool down area........yea its stupid....but it's a good 60 ft tester!

Jack....Well Ive busted sets of axels, 1 auburn, and 1 pro aubs. 2 ring and pin., Remember drag radials produce alot of tire shake, and wheel hop which will hurt bad...lol

john,
do you have a set of "P" specific shorty headers you want to sell??
yea I've heard nightmare's with the tire shake deal. I'm hoping I have something that will eliminate that! :)
