Guys,
As you all know, I'm searching out ideas for a local class for EFI/R type cars to run in next year locally. Driving all over the country with gas at $3.00/gallon and hotels and what-not is just waaaaay too pricey now-a-days. So I was surfing around the net today and just for poops & giggles, I took a look at the Chicago Wise Guys website. If you haven't heard of them, check out their website at www.chicagowiseguys.com. Anyway, I found the phone number of Pete Demos, the president of their organization, and gave him a call. I pitched him the idea of letting us run our style of racing at their events with them. They are a circuit/match racing group. I'm not real clear on all their rules, but I don't think it would matter. Although my conversation with Pete was short (because he was at a park w/his kids), he seemed receptive to the idea. He even said we'd set it up to run with them, but we'd be responsible for our own rules, tech, points, etc....as if we were our own association...which is the way I thinkk we'd all prefer it. They're general format is that they collect a fee from the track owners for showing up and racing. They usually run 1 day events at local tracks using a 12 car field. Long story short, he asked me to come back to him with a number of what we'd charge a track operator to put on a show. I was told him I'd make some phone calls and get back to him...
What do you guys think?
ps. I've already gotten a few local sponsors interested in this idea....

Scott,
I know Pete, my cousin Tommy is his crew chief. (must run in the family, huh?) I can help arrange some meeting if need be.
I thought I had mentioned this before.
You got the digits....

FYI, US 41 has a Limited Street Class this coming Saturday the 24th that we could fit into. The only problem I see is they don't want lettering on painted surfaces. Check the rules out @ www.us41dragway.com I like the Wise Guys thing. I've seen the show in the past and it's cool. It would be nice to get some other brands in our group also. I think the interest would go up quite a bit and make it easier to sell to the local tracks. Just think...we could use the money we make to buy beer when the racing is over.

Bob-
I was thinking the same thing. The Wise Guys don't care about that kind of stuff. It would be cool to run against chevy's and other makes. I really like the rules for the Outlaw Stock class that the Chitown guys run, but they don't allow wings or lettering on the paint either. They don't seem very organized either from what I can see.
Lumpy-
Werd!!

I'm in for what ever. Like you guys said all the traveling is getting old. If you want to set something up at one of these races I think that would be very cool. If you need help I'm in on that also.

The weather isn't looking too good for Saturday in the area. I plan going to Rt66 for testing. I was at 41 last Sunday so, I missed you by a day. I saw that you had pics from Friday nights SCC and the Saturday Buick thing on your site.

Whatcha gonna do Smav? leave your car here and just fly in for races?
:)
Hi Scott,
A little info for ya in regards to starting this new class......
First off The Wise Guys run almost all there races at Great Lakes Dragaway and Byron......At Great Lakes they already have a class called True Street.....check it out on there web site http://www.greatlakesdragaway.com/index.php?page=truestreet
And at Byron we have the class we run with Outlaw Super Stock that you already know of called "Outlaw Stock".......
I'm not trying to give you a hard time at all.....just letting you know whats up......I just don't see what track your gonna do this at.......when the Wise Guys run at the Grove it's almost always with the Nitrous Street Car Brawl.....and thats when they run that true street class......
I know in our Outlaw Stock class we were trying to find other tracks to run at as well to get more races on the schedule for next year.....we may get a couple at 41.......who knows maybe we can get together and pull something off that everyone can participate in ????
Maybe they will do something with the rules for you guys at GLD (with the Help of Pete Demios) that will get your style cars to fit there True Street class......try asking about it on the true street forum on the GLD site I posted above......
Anyway.....goodluck.....and if I can provide any further info don't hesitate to ask....

Hey Jim,
Thanks for your post. I think we'd all love to run Outlaw Stock if the rules makers would let us. You have a great set of rules rules for the most part. I know we run a little faster than you guys want us to run, but if you need to slow us down, you can always restrict the blower pulley sizes we run and jet sizes for the nitrous combos. Just get the rules makers to allow wings and sponsor lettering on the paint and we're in!! We'd love to come out. I'll bet you'd see all of us chicagoland NMRA cars there.

I think it is a GREAT idea Scott......I'd love to see you guys come out .......your the kind of people we need at these events to make them exciting and worth watching......hopefully over this winter we can get together and come to some kind of agreement as to how to set this up so it is fair to everyone.......as a matter of fact we need to plan on that......I'll do my best to put it together !!!!! I don't see why we can't come to some kind of agreement that satisfies everyone......and it most certianly would increase the car count quite a bit !!!!!
I'll be in touch after the season to set something up......maybe some kind of BEER drinkin, RULE makin party......"ooops" I mean serious meeting of the minds !!!!!
Thanks,
Jim N.

Jim,
Sounds good to me. The sooner we do something, the better. We don't want guys to start selling off their stuff before we can give them an alternative.
my digits: 630-308-BEER.
I'm sure we can work it out.
ps. alot of us NMRA guys have alot of sponsors that we can bring with us.....not just for our own individual teams, but sponsors who might want to extend their assistance to the the whole series.

It's not out of the question that we would run another group along with T/S, CWG and Modified Super Street/Super Stock at our Nitrous Street Car Brawl if you had a organized format and a good number of cars.
Talk to Randy Hennnig or Ray Drew about this, you might be suprised. We also would possibly be open to running an entire separate series for you guys. We have several of these kind of events going on. We have DHRA Diesel Drags and Chicago Gearheads and other groups that run a "series" at GLD. As a Ford fan, I would love to see you guys run a Mustang shootout or an EFI shootout.
Are any of you planning to come to our Saturday RSD on the 15th? I'll be there for 14 hours, I'm easy to find or just ask for me, I'll introduce you to the owners if you haven't already met them and you can bounce your ideas off them.
