opinions wanted:
if you took the top racers that (run pushrod engines) given their current combo, could they still run up front with a stock bottem end (of course with a oilpan, oil pickup, timing chain cover and maybe a cam).
and second question:
Could someone build a combo (pushrod engine) and what times could they possibly get?

I ran a 12.6 at 109 with a completely stock bottom end with 140,000 miles on it, with gt 40 heads, intake, and a new oil pan. and didn't even remove the timing chain cover. had some traction issues so it could have been low 12's.:D

They wouldn't be close with a stock bottom end. Probably run 12.teens at best. What do you mean by "with a cam". With no cam restrictions they could win. Darrin Hendricks ran low 11's in Pure Street with a stock bottom end a few years ago.
Not sure what you mean by the second question.

i meant with a stock 87-93 cam!
is it legal to run a cobra cam from a 93 with the GT-40 or GT-40 "P" heads when you run a cobra intake from a 93? just wondering?
thanks

nope, you have to run the cam that is allowed by the rules, that is a stock cam w/ 1.7s rockers. Anyway, the Cobra cam is junk compared to a stock one

I have seen 2 locals that literally through in Junkyard Explorer motors and went in the 12.4's with FS type street cars.
I ran my 95 at Reynolds in FS this year. I wanted to check out the heads up stuff, try something different.
My car had stock 120K+ (as in from factory) bottom end. Did not remove timing cover, heck the valve covers had never been off it before the head swap.
Had a 70mm TB, 30lb Inj., 80mm MassAir Anderson Power Pipe (95 Model), PMS, Junkyard Explorer upper and lower, GT40P Heads valve job and cut to 58cc, 1.7 Harland Shaft Rockers. 4.30 Gear. Proshifted TKO2, Tall BFG Radials.
Tough getting used to launching on the BFGs
Went a best of 12.5 at 107 that weekend.
Not bad considering my car weighed 3480 w/me in it. Still has Mach460 Stereo, Battery under the hood and Functioning A/C.
Budget Racer............
With some weight out and moved around, could probably get her down a few tenths...??????
I am going to sell the heads and shorty headers, if you are interested...???? I don't think the rockers will be legal with the new rules???

Put the juice to her for last several events, last run Atco Mustang vs Buick(with crappy 1.68 60')7.0 @99.9 to the 1/8, then she quit, split block!
