trying to decide if I need slicks or BFG drag radials for the track.....you guys run BFG's and haul pretty good. What are some of your 60 fts? do you leave extreamly hard........or can you not leave as hard with BFG's? The gear I'll be running is prolly the 4:30's!
thanks

I'll give you a little info on my combo and you can be the judge.
Dyno'ed 287hp and 347tq at the wheels with the E7 combo.
Had a best 60ft of a 1.61 launching at 3500rpm and pulling the wheels a few inches with a 4.30 gear.
I had also tried 4.56's at the beginning of last year and ran a 12.04 with a 1.68 60ft. Should have stayed with them. :(
I know some of the GT40 guys were leaving alot higher. But I couldn't get the car to hook launching any higher.
Ran 11-12psi, depending on the track, on the BFG's.
Now the MT's are another story. I launched at 5500 and had tire pressure at 14psi. Car didn't seem like it was launching as good with the MT's over the BFG's. Possibly my suspension setup.
And that's the rest of my story. :D

My best 60' on BFG's was 1.64 at BG launching at 4600rpm. A few weeks later bolted on some 28x9 slicks and went 1.51 launching at 5800.

I hate BFG's....

MT's are the stickiest Drag Radial.... I was running Hoosier slicks.

1.50's with a 7000 rpm launch is impressive!.........That was with a spool wasn't it?
Someone told me that if you really shock the BFG's Drag Radials(high rpm launch) they work best!
thanks

The average Joe/street car will probaly be launching around 3500 - 3800 (with a stick). Don't let Shawns times fool you (he's not the average). It takes alot of time and testing (and clutch setups) to set up a car to hook on BFG's.
also when they spin they usally shake. when I first started running them I was breaking 31spline axles & T5's in a mid 12sec car.

Spool yes...

Scott is right ..... it took a lot of clutch and suspension testing and bending parts to get it to do that but the car will not ride very well down the road....

thats not what I was wanting to hear....:)

I saw where someone else posted about the tire shake, and was thinking "tire shake" on a 12 sec car??? but I guess when you have something trying to grab, and also trying to slip at the same time (probably different tire compounds than slicks also) that it could happen. Clutch's isnt something I was wanting to fool around with......But I guess thats what makes this class so interesting.......I guess so many are fooling around with worrying about gear choices, suspensions and other stuff getting setup then the clutch gets a little over looked.

I wouldn't run drag radials on a car unless I had to. It will take alot of testing and trying different parts to get them to work well. Shocking them is tha last thing you want to do. You want to get as much of the weight of the car on the tire as you can before you hit them with the full brunt of your power. It's a bit tricky with a stick car but can be done with the right suspension parts and the perfect amount of clutch slippage which, BTW, is very hard on clutches.
