"NMRA Preliminary Rules to Be Released Next Week
For Immediate Release: 2006 NMRA Preliminary Rules to Be Released Next Week
Orange County, CALIF. – The NMRA-Denso Ford Drag Racing Series 2006 rules are expected to be released within the next week in preliminary form. Once the rules have been formally released there will be a feedback period of ten days, with the final NMRA 2006 rules being set in stone at the end of November.
Most NMRA 2006 eliminators can expect minor changes. In the NMRA’s top classes: DiabloSport Pro 5.0, MSD Super Street Outlaw, ProCharger Renegade, and Edelbrock Hot Street, only minor adjustments are expected. In the Open Comp style classes, another round of minor changes will be implemented, specifically moving the qualifying method to one based on reaction time.
Much more significant changes are to be implemented in K&N Factory Stock and 5.0 Mustang Real Street. Both categories will see some sweeping adjustments. Changes will be implemented to move the NMRA Factory Stock category away from the NHRA-mandated roll-cage e.t. limit of 11.49 and closer to 11.80 second times.
Additional changes will be implemented which will bring the F/S cars closer to real street cars, including the return of standard-style tailpipes and mandating a stock-type sway bar. Real Street will be slowed down to an initial target e.t. range of 10.20-10.30 using a combination of valve spring, retainer, pushrod, blower belt, nitrous jet, and revised weight limits.
The goal of the R/S and F/S adjustments will be to ensure the future of the two categories as entry-level street classes within the NMRA, and to keep them in an e.t. range which permits a competitor to build a vehicle in a manner which avoids the more costly roll cage and safety equipment required with quicker e.t.’s.
Preliminary rules will be released on NMRAracing.com within the week."
That doesn't sound good for the 4V cars to me....

Hmm, sounds like a return to regular radials, no skinnies up front, and airbags in the rear springs. Yee-ha. Damn them old days and going back to the original "intent" of the class.
(Just guessing on all that, since what can they really do that isn't being done now....)

Like, where? LOL!
I wonder if they mean a front or rear swaybar?
I don't think FS was ever required to run regular radials, or forbidden from running skinnies up front.
There was a time when the Fox cars weren't allowed electric fans or battery relocation, though.
I'm thinking I might put off installing the blower kit on my stock LX till I see what they're up to.

I do...1.56 best short time out of the first 7 passes on the car.
Well, I'll admit that I did previously writen in and ask that any changes that may be made to FS be made in an effort to keep the class away from the 11.49 safety rules. I will not put a bar in my car simply to run FS so I don't want the rules to allow for faster 5.0 based cars. I also think that I'm not alone in that position. Yes, plenty of people that are already in the class have roll bars and everything else that is required but many more who may run the class in the future do not have nor want to add a bunch of equipment to their car to run in FS. My opinion, like it or not, is that FS needs to stay slower than 11.5's for the appearance to the spectators and to avoid additional rules that must then apply to all competitive vehicles.

So by sweeping the 4Vs out it wouldn't be a huge amount of money lost from the F/S guys(Shawn, Jeff, Carlos, Ryan, + upcoming 4Vs)? Where are they going to race at then without spending alot of money to step up to P/S?

we might as well put stock ABS brakes on and A/C that works
complete factory stereo system and NO BALLAST allowed
stock sway bar and control arms and shocks
why not just add a NEW class SHOWROOM STOCK
OR just add an index and you have Street Stang class
tell me who cares about cars that go 11.80s???? we know they can
do that , they have since 2002!!!!!!

Could be some truth in that statement.
NMRA needs to address equalizing a product that hasn't been produced for a decade to current Factory product. So lets drop the push rods and go with modular 2v's and 3 v's only. The class is now a 12 second class and represents what you see at your local T&T night. Lots of people standing at the gate to jump in.
I don't want to see the 4v's or the push rods dropped either. With NMRA, you never know.

Bracket racing looks better every time I go to the NMRA board. Closer and alot cheaper. Not to mention $1500 to win. :) Ok, so there's no contingency. But I sure won't have to spend as much. LOL

So lets see, spec valvesprings? Please not those things from Comp Cams for 4.6 cars! No titanium in the valvetrain? So what do 4.6 cars do? Use stock retainers?? Fk that! There are no steel retainers I'm aware. Pushrods length requirements? No more 'solid' factory lifters huh? Belts dont tell me I have to go to a 6 rib! If so someone better reimburse me for the time and money spent messing with different truck pulley combos! And weight, GD do they not realize weight is the biggest enemy of these entry level cars!?! GForce trans are expensive!!!!! I hope they rethink some of this stuff or I'm out some cash!!!!

Thats a lot of weight for all of us....

You will see nothing but broken parts if weight is added...and how will that help get more cars in.?

I was speaking from a R/S point of view, sorry this thread is the only place I found where people are voicing their opinions on the potential changes.
I know to relax but those rules kinda scared me into thinking I spent alot of cash for soon to be illegal parts.
If you don't know the deal with pushrod length on these stock lifter 5.0 class cars, do some homework. It's pretty simple.

Yeah, and illegal as hell, too.
FS Rules Copy:
1.18b) LIFTERS: Functional, unmodified Ford OEM stock hydraulic roller lifters required.
Any modification to the clip, pushrod cup, piston, spring, or lifter body is not permitted. Hydraulic roller lifters may not be plugged or bottomed.
RS Rules Copy:
1.18b) LIFTERS: Functional, unmodified Ford OEM stock hydraulic roller lifters required.

I still haven't figured out how they are gonna slow a 4V down .5. Adding weight isn't an option given what weight they are at now. Valvetrain changes won't do it. Maybe compression ???

Can you say $$$$$$$$. A good set of F/S prepped heads isn't inexpensive. We should see this week. I'm not even going to attempt to assume what they are going to do.
Bob Cosby
11-14-2005, 04:21 PM
If they do indeed plan to get folks back to the 11.8s, its going to take some SIGNIFICANT changes to the 4Vs (and to the top 5.0s too, I might add). I was only a bit over a tenth away from that in 2002 with bolt-ons (12.02 with no internal work at all) at 3450 lbs.
How do you do this? Don't know....increase the cc requirement? Spec pistons (ala NHRA S/E)? No 03+ heads (there go the Machs)? Require stock exhaust logs? Don't know what else they could do outside of adding weight (very, very bad idea).
Guess they could mandate a silly gear like 3.73s....that would be the cheap route, but damn that would suck.

It's funny you mention that Bob, Kyle has a new set of 3.73's sitting his garage that came in some trading he did recently. He was gonna throw them in a 93 Cobra he's resurrecting from poor treatment from previous owner. He decided not to put them in it and just leave it stock. I mentioned he might wanna hold on to them before selling them because we might could use them for something. I hope it doesnt come down to that either...but at least we got a set waiting. And the cc deal, that would really suck, we waited over 3 months to get a new set done w/ 52cc.

I know. :) But if a pushrod finds a way to go consistant say 11.50-60's and the mods are slowed w/ 3.73's to 11.80's and are stuck, what are they to do then? And who says we won't switch over to 4v power.:D Kyle's been doing ALOT of trading lately, aquired quite a few things.;) I guess what I was saying with my previous post meant we're anxiously awaiting the new rules, got a ton of parts laying around that maybe used for next year, then again, may go up for sale and head for a different class.
