Now that the rules are out, who is doing what? Who is racing and with what combo? Are current program with the 08 rules will not run 11.30's so we will only be racing Joliet and Milan. We are not spending the money to change combo's. Although we will be running the IMSM series for 2008. Good luck guys and have a great time. We will miss hanging out with you.

My thoughts, I simply enjoy the competition of racing and will participate when/where I can (win or lose). However, due to transportation limitations, I will be focusing on local events where I can drive the car too/from the track.

I do plan on participating in NMRA at Illinois and possibly Michigan where I will be giving 150%. We have seen in the past that the fastest car does not always win. Sometimes it is the most reliable, or the competition is having an off day. Everyone has a fighter's chance.

Hell, if the Giants can take the Cowboys and the Chargers can take the Colts, then anything can happen... Though, unfortunately, the Bears cannot get their head out of their ass, but then again, there is always next season.

Congrats, Tommy. I would come by the shop but I am still not able to drive my truck since my surgery (got some repair work done on my left ankle). My plans for 2008 and beyond....I am thinking about selling all my crap, even my truck before we move to Germany. When we payoff the Focus, order a Challenger through AAFES about 6mos before we live Germany and pick it up when we get back to the states...Or order it as soon as the Focus is paid off and have fun with it Germany....Forget this heads-up crap and traveling all over the country....

Nope. But then again looks like I phrased it wrong. It won't be a 'new' car. ;) Just a new driver and it's new to MD. Not a done deal but pretty much.

I feel sorry for whoever lines up against me this year. I was just warming up last year to heads up racing. It's GAME ON this year 150%. No midseason swaps, no lack of seat time, no lack of testing, no rookie mistakes, no lack of concentration, I got that all out of my system. No more handouts either;) .

$35,000 for the cobra Brian. If you know some potential buyers let me know.

Silver car is mine. 1st pass was cold off the trailer so I Shawn Shifted it. The 6speed doesn't like to be shifted cold. On the 10.27 pass I pedaled it, track was going away. It's also funny to listen to the shifts and watch how the rear suspension is soft and takes time to catch up.

Any damage to the red cobra as it appeared to smoke at the end of the track?

The 9 second runs in your car, was that with or without the nitrous?

Better yet Ive heard so much B.S. over the years I have one for you Take The best of the Best racers who have finished in the top five or better since the nmra has started for past and present factory stock racers that have been voted the best top five guys for factory stock( The Living Legends) by their peers of factory stock racers past and present and only those who have raced in FS can do this: Then put them in a 5.0, a 2v, a 3v and a 4v give them ten passes a piece and this is just a suggestion but we can figure out here amongst us how to determine who is the BEST. We as a group can decide on how we determine the Best driver of all time is..HAHAHAHAHAHA What a shoot out that would be..Magazine coverage...I think so...Are you Listening NMRA. Now that is definately saying when the light drops all the Bullshit stops.......What do you think?????????????????????

I just don't ever see all the people involved to agree on how it should be run LOL. I could hear it now "well he got to drive that car when it was cool, I drove it after 4 people had, if I would have drove it first I would have went way faster".

Would be entertaining though:cool:

I love it. Your buttons are way to easy to push.:)

The big head thing has run its course. I would have no problem having us pick a neutral car to see who went quicker. It's just 1 more free pass down the track. All I want to do is race. If you read my posts I was clearing just teasing, trying to livin' things up. It's all about competition and winning. ;)

ummm, Chris Little was 3 times back to back drag radial champion straight out of Pasadena, MD! Maybe its something in our sunshine. Justin Burcham, Tommy Godfry, Mike Washington, Rich Groh, Phil Clemmons.... ALL flew the JPC flags when they won their championships.

I think pretty much everybody can drive some maybe a little better than others, but not a lot different. The biggest difference was and is the cars, some cars had more put into them than others. You want to see who can really drive, take a group and run one car and let it be a stock car with a stock tranny, no pro-shiftin' bs and then you'll find out who can do what.

True.
Who won more events or titles does not tell the whole story.

It does hot show who can hit the shift points all the time, shift times, launch technique, RT and so on.

1. Bob
2. Ian
3. Justin
4. Mike
5. Shawn

Sure you all will argue my #5. I say he is in the top 5 no matter what. He showed great ability to run very consistent in a inconsistent class, and being a consistent driver adds a lot in my mind.

Well Guy's,
You are all good! The best that I have ever seen was Ed Smith.
Not only does he fix t5's. He know's how to drive. Without a doubt ! The best I ever seen on a 400 tree and rowing that t5. Just my thoughts. I know he never raced Factory Stock! Mr Washington I think you have seen Ed drive. What do you think?

Wow, all this Fancy 2 Channel Autometer Data......LOL

We have had it in the car for the Contingency, Never used the Driveshaft Sensor.....We WILL next year.

I have used the capabilities in the Real Street car and I average .10 to .11 on the changes.....Bruce taught me to read the data. I might be calculating it different than you guys.

The best I have gone was .097

You are finally going to use it…..

That was the first thing I put in the FS car and its still there…
Warning….
You can’t lie to your crew chief with it… you can’t say you shifted smooth or at the right time if you didn’t….the only thing missing is a throttle position signal…
I still have all my tack data books from FS… We measure shift time from the initial flash break (clutch releases) to the bottom peak (clutch grabs).
I don’t know what my best is I would have to look through the books but I do know that I can see how bad I was when I started….

whats the purpose of the throttle position signal? My foot goes to the floor and stays there until I cross the finish line.

Every video I have ever watched of you, or should I say "listened too" sounds like you lift your foot off the gas pedal between shifts. That is how you have earned the name "Granny Shiftin Shawn Johnson"

My average is .13.... I consider myself to be a rather slow shifting person.

Where do you think I would fall at with you knowing how I shift? I can't wait to get that think hooked up so we can be more competitive:)

You can measure the shifts without the driveshaft sensor....I will still show the peaks and lows of the RPMs during the shifts.....

signal is to prove that it was.... everyone says that never lift...but no one believes that...

Who cares what we call you, your still a three time Champion. If it works for you then it obviously works well. I'm not "name calling" just giving you the reasons why "I" think you shift slow. If you dont lift, then your car sounds like you do. Either way, you have won three championships and I havent won any. Keep doin what you're doin.

I'll admit sometimes I do... it depends on how many trans I have waiting in the pits and if its qual or elim… braking in a new clutch or old….. but if its Mike.... its all out...braking all those trans with that 390 gear gets a person gun shy...

and last season I found out that changing the position of your seat makes a big difference...... last year it was in the wrong position…

I broke more trans last year just trying to out qual. you.... for some reason ... switching from the T5 to the TKO ... I couldn't get the 2 - 3 shift timing down....

Well, I don't have a clue as to how slow I shift, but if you guys are that slow then maybe you should try the AOD with the weight break? You'd gain close to .4 tenths instantly, Change the camshaft around alittle and let the TQ convertor work.:D :D :D

I think Shawn sometimes sounds slow because of the clutch he uses. As far as tach data, it all matter how you measure it (as far as comparing) but I do it the same way with Steve everytime. It used to be my best ammo for yelling. Need to find something else.

let me think about that for a minute, NO.

Just because it takes .13 to shift doesnt mean the car stops moving forward.
No matter how fast you shift there is a period of time that the car is not in gear. So under your deductions EVERYONE would benefit from an AOD.

If that was the case they would need to be +400lbs for a AOD:D

I believe in the Ed Hohenberg theory of shifting: Never lift unless you're upside down or on fire (and then its only a maybe).

And Stock T45's hate me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjqVPl6KDa8). ;)

Ya'll have a great 2008 - I'll be watching!

NoNoNoNo ! Maryland is NOT NorthEast as far as us NorEasteners are concerned. And the SouthEast begins in Virginia. That means that everything inbetween must be the MiddleEast !!! lolol

You're not factoring in the TQ convertor and you're using the 100# for a tenth formula, which is way off in this class or P/S.
Just because it takes .13 to shift doesnt mean the car stops moving forward.
No matter how fast you shift there is a period of time that the car is not in gear. So under your deductions EVERYONE would benefit from an AOD. The car is no longer under accelleration, but rather deccelleration during some of the shifts. And I'd be willing to bet, if it takes .14 to shift you're losing .07 in E.T. (Atleast).
And NO, it wouldn't benefit every racer to go to an AOD. Not everyone uses the clutch!!!!

Well I have to use the same factors that get used against me so 100 to slow you a tenth is what everyone is saying about mine;)

Whoever doesn't use the clutch has a bigger sack than I do. I broke sliders while using the clutch hate to see what happens when you don't. Must have really good timing on there shifts.

even if you dont use the clutch there is a period of time when the car in technically in nuetral. So no matter how you slice it, with or without a clutch, the car at some point during the shift is "deccellerating".

Im curious as to why Hot Street gets a 200 pound penalty to run a stick if they are created so equal. Maybe you should send in some more rule revisions for Hot Street, once you get them through with all your convincing data Bob Hanlon would thank you endlessly.

Are you really curious?

Because you are racing with a 100# penalty now and can't use but a diaphram clutch (10.5" too) and are limited to 4 gears with a preselected gear ratios and final drive is 4th gear, not 5th.
Now, let's say for example that the adjustable clutch was still legal, The penalty was 150# for that back in the day. Now that would be 250# penalty and the clutchless trans with 5 gears aint even factored in yet. The trans by itself is worth 2 tenths in a class ssimiliar to P/S over the T-5/Tremec and that's another tested and proven fact.
Sounds to me like H/S sticks are getting a break compared to P/S sticks.

:) :) :) DING DING DING

However, as long as it is taking some of these guys to shift, the engine flare is probably close to 5-600 rpms and is probably off the limiter and they don't even know it.

But dont forget all those input shafts Shawn broke. Funny how the gear that gave Shawn the most headaches was 1st.. If the grannyshifting allegations are true, then even more kudos to Shawn. We've been beating the livin bejesus out of our trannys and Shawn took 2 F/S rings. I'm done here, now back to my drink and my horse.
