Hey Chris,
Sorry i have not had a chance to call you. I am still working on the OSM proposal for next year and need to get it finished asap. I have thought about the best way to handle your concerns, and i believe posting is the best way, that way there are no mis-interpretations and there is a clear record of what i am saying. It also gives me a chance to think before i speak lol.
1. In the 2 years i have been talking with you about your combo, you have not shown me any data on your car. No testing, no dyno numbers, no specs.
2. For 2 years you have been asking me for several rules changes, with only your combo in mind and nothing to base them on. I approved 2 changes (1 for the class as a whole (deduct 50 lbs for non intercooled combos) and one for 6cyl cars (took another 100lbs off). Both of these rules resulted in you being able to take off an extra 150 pounds.
As the promoter and owner of this series, i have to think about the class as a whole. I cannot make rules based on one person. What if someone else other than you is looking to bring an import here next year and knows their combo? Under the current rules, you would have to weigh 2900 lbs and you are unlimited on turbo size. I feel that your latest request of allowing NOS with your combo is unfair to everyone who runs or may want to run Outlaw 8.5 next year. There are other ways to control your turbo that are legal.
In all honesty, i think the combo you are building sounds pretty damn cool. When we first started talking about all this, i told you there are no guarantees, and that the rules are set for a year and may change for the next year. So im not sure why you are so suprised about the rules for 08. I do not like to make mid-season rules changes. It does nothing but cause problems and cost people money. You had a whole year to get the car out under the 07 rules in which you could run twin turbos with 100 lb penalty. All i have asked is that you show me some numbers. If it becomes obvious that your combo is maxxed out, both Justin and i will do what we can to keep things fair. I just cant justify making so many changes when there is nothing to base them on. So many people have been working on their combos for years trying to figure them out. I will not be the promoter who awards someone that doesnt put the time in, and penalize the person who has finally figured it out. Seen it too many times and i dont agree with that, that is part of the reason why i run my own series. On the flip side, i am not perfect and i do make mistakes. I do my best to learn from them, and im the first to admit when i do make one. Thats why i like to hear what all of you think. Because there may be something i overlooked.
Please, get the car done, do some testing. Hell i will even come help you. Ive got quite a few friends who are some of the best in the business when it comes to import motors. If you need advice i will point you in their direction. I think your combo has a shot, and i think you do also or you wouldnt have built it.
Thanks!
Kelly
