View Full Version : Diablo Chip?

Hello,
Just wondering if anyone had trouble overiding the rev limiter when they were using a Diablo chip in there stock processor. I have heard of this happening with the super chip stuff. Just wondering, because 6200 is were my car seems stop reving at. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the timing set and ran with the spout in or out?

Hey Charlie,

I had this issue with my 2v and I was using the Diablo Revolution. Chris Johnson from Diablo finally got me straightened out at the my last event in 2004.

Gene,
The timing is set at 10 degrees with the spout out. He did all the tuning through the chip. It isn't the mass air. It actually feels like it hits a rev limiter when it is on the dyno. Makes power up to that point. It isn't fuel. Everything
reads fine on the graph up till that point . We did the pulls with the spout in.

I don't know alot about the revolution stuff, but I do know a little about the Autologic and there is a certain area in there that needs to be changed for the computer to recognize a RPM limiter change, My suggestion would be to pull the spout out and increase the timing to your total and leave the spout out. Make a pull (either on the dyno or street or whatever) and if it pulls on up, then I would find someone to take a look at the "Max PIP period" in the Revolution chip.

All we have the Diablosport chip do is over ride the revlimiter....We set total timing with the distributor...

Hey Chalie I responded to your prob. on the other thread but you must have missed it. I had the exact same thing happen to me last year. Sounded like it was on the rev. limiter or I had the 2 step on. I had a Diablo chip in it and thought it was the problem and had it checked and then sent diablo the whole computer and the put a crystal in it and same thing 6200. I took it to a mustang tuner down here and tried one of his ecms ,and he didnt know. The engine would start to miss fire at 6200 and sound just like the 2 step was on, but it would rev past that point but not clean.Didnt find out what caused it till it was too late. #5 cyl. ate an exhaust valve and wiped out a two race only DSS motor. OUCH. Cause of which was valve float,too aggresive ramp rates on cam for springs too handle at the seat pressure we have to run.I talked to Jim Kuntz about this and he explained what happened and custom ground a cam I have now with no problems so far.I hope this helps , I would hate to see this happen to anybody , It sucks and is very expe$$$$$$$ive.

I called Diablo add they said to change the crystal in the computer. The cam that is in the car doesn't have agressive ramp speed in it. with your calculation that you gave me it is alomst the same as the one you have in your car. I came up with 59. The engine builder was with me at the dyno, he says it's not valve float, It is like it is hitting the rev limiter like you said. I'm getting the crystal changed inthe processor. It isn't that much money to do that. My car won't rev past 6300 so we will see. I have what you said in the back of my mind, so I won't be pushing it. It made more power all through the power band up till 6250 . I don't think there is much more any higher

I'm glad and can see that the way you tune your car works for you. But I have found that what works for one doesn't nessacarily work for all.
Every time I take the car to Bill at 2nd sreet speed he finds more power than what I had. I set the car up with the stock cam the way I have been setting my cars up for years and tested it I took it to him and he found 25 more horsepower with him tuning the car through the computer verses the way I had it.. We installed the new cam and the car went faster than it ever did. Granted It is not as fast as your car. I took it to him after the new cam and he found more power. I hope to go 11's in Kentucky. If I told you how much money is in my motor you would laugh ! It isn't much! I appreciate all the advice you have given during this last year. I wish you well with your next assignment. You will be missed.

Changing the crystal in the processor will help with it shutting off between gears, but I don't think it'll help your problem. Plus it will have to be retuned with the crystal in there. It may make it more rich.

I think I will run it the way it is. If changing the crystal will change the tune . I will leave it alone. I don' have the money for another dyno session.
It made more power , so I think i will shift it lower than 6200 and let it fly.
In the off season when I get the motor rebuilt I will adress the crystal then.

Get a spare processor and have it done, then you can try them both back to back at the track. I had this done to mine many moons ago and it didn't change the tune much at all, but it did fatten it up some. However, if you'll pull the spout and set the timing up to total, it should allo for you turn the RRR's on up.
