How long will a stock block and crank last in a good running p/s motor? With it balanced and the whole nine yards with lite pistons and good rods.

How high are do you entend to rev the motor. About 8000 is tops.If you are looking for a good short block I have one. It will go about 8600 plus.

I ran the original 80,000 mile 1987 block in my PS car. It had a stock crank and balance, some light weight Diamond Pistons, Probe rods, no girdle or hard block, and I didn't even freshen it up for 3 seasons. I've been told that the main caps will start to walk around 7,000-7,500 rpm so I always shifted at 7,100 rpm. The car ran a best of a 10.67 in the NMRA with consistent low .70's. A couple of hollow stem valves ended up popping their heads off and broke my motor...who knows how much longer it would have lasted. Hope this helps.

Kinda figured somewhere in the 6800-7200 rpm range. If I deside to run the class i'll go with eagle rods, diamond pistons. main girdle and all the go fast parts I can afford lol. Thanks for the info and hope to get the heap goin one of these years lol.

Although My car is/was not fast like they are now but in 2001 at Silver Dollar and WFC that year My car ran consistant 11.6's @116-118 with a STOCK Shortblock with 180K plus miles. I was shifting around 6700-6800 r's. The shortblock is still alive and kickin but dumb me torched a couple valves (AFR 165 stock valve springs) oops. Total brainfart on replacing those. But the car ran REAL good for the time. I was .3 off #1 qualifier at Silver Dollar race. I was happy.
The most fun you can have losing in the first round to Mcgowen(purpose built car) to my street car.

I hear you Greg...when I started in PS I ran a bone stock short block also. I was happy with the 11.40's it eventually ran (street car), but then like everything else I had to tear it apart to go faster...should have just left it a street car, I would have saved a lot of money ;)

i know this post is a little late but...my 2 cents. i still run the same stock block stock crank i ran PS with in 03. it's been over 8000 rpm probably 150 passes, the ballance is not 0, and it's still alive.... it was'nt that fast back in 03 but for the last 20 passes i've sprayed it(.070), with the best pass being 9.73 @ 138.6 this past friday night.

this was at 3000# and a 28x10.5 tire but its still a stock block and crank

cheap stuff is fast sometimes, d barbaree

no video, we may tape it this friday if we go.. still got the same tremec i was running. actually everything is like i ran it in PS exept no ballast and the 28's
it was allmost too easy i just put a jet in the inlet tube and a borrowed wide band. it went faster every pass and for some reason it didn't melt and nothing
ever flew out the bottem..
may try a .085 jet next, if it'l run 140 just once then i can retire it or put the little mule on light duty!!

later d

hey mark how's it goin..

i'll give ya the short version of the renegade saga.. after MI 04 we kept testing, really just learning. we had the car leaving hard as hell one friday night,it was a little on the edge to drive and i ended up slidin the car into the wall at about the 1/8.. so we regrouped over the winter. changed a few things in the motor and was ready to run early april 05. car went 8.79 first time out with a very slow short time so we had high hopes. next time out i broke the trans and only good converter we had.i fixed the c4 and put in a converter that just killed it. then we had to change injectors cause the 83s were pegged. that led to starting from scratch with the tune .. after alot of test passes on hwy165 in front of my shop we got close. put a tight converter back in, went to the track and on the first pass destroyed the blower.

all work no play
im getin tired just talkin about it, dwayne
