Ever since putting the 4v in my car, we have been having issues with the clutch. It's a 4VNA setup for NMRA Pure Street and we are turning 8,000+ RPM. In Columbus we had it apart 4 times swapping clutches. Still no luck. The pedal was sticking the floor and nothing seemed to hold.
I got in touch with Centerforce and they recommend the LMC series setup. They shipped me the complete setup (flywheel, pressure plate, disk ) overnight to the Bowling Green race. Plan was to qualify with what I had in there Friday, then swap everything over Friday night. Unfortunately, the package didn't arrive on Friday. Fedex had some problems and the package was delayed until Saturday.
I got a decent hit on Friday, running a 10.84@126. The package didn't arrive until late Saturday, so we had to wait until after qualifying. Once we started I realized I didn't have the right pressure plate to flywheel bolts. So I headed out to the store to try and track some down. While I was gone, I was lucky enough to have guys around to tear it completely down before I even got back. Big thanks goes out to John Tymensky, Bill Phillps, Shawn Johnson and Ian Mullane. Got everything back together around 11 pm and went for a spin down the return road. The new setup felt perfect.
Fast forward to Sunday and I had a 11.60 car first round so I figured this would give me a chance to test out the clutch. Car launched ok and the pass felt decent. I couldn't believe it when I got the slip, but I went 10.56@128.95!! I just stared at the slip for a minute. Picked up almost .3 and 3mph in way worse weather!
After looking over the slip, the 60' was pretty bad (1.53). I took a good look at the tires and they didn't look so good. Since the car was running better than expected and we really had a shot in the next round, I ran over the the midway and had Mickey Thompson put on a new set of slicks.
Next round I had Teddy, he went 10.48 in the first round so I knew it would be a tight race. I was a bit behind him on the tree, but pretty much stuck with him the rest of the way. I ran a 10.48@128 to his 10.46@128. Even though I lost, I couldn't have been happier with the ET. The difference was the 60', a 1.43 Now that we have a clutch that works, I think we can pick up even more with some seat time and suspension tuning.
Big thanks goes out to John and Mike T from Modular Performance for building me such a killer setup.
