Hi Guys,
I know you aren't allowed cogs in the class but thought that maybe some of you might have tested withthem at some point. We are running 50mm set 73/28T on a 302 Dart block with the YSi shifting at 7000. No matter how well I align the 2 tensioners/idlers I will still get side rubbing of the belt and within a few minutes of running, the threads will be exposed. Problem 2, we will only get 3-7 passes from the belt before it will either totally destroy it'self or several chunks will tear off. At first, we thought that I had the belt tensioned too tight so we loosened it and on the next pass it promptly tore every tooth from the belt. A bit tighter and we will get 3-7 passes out of a belt. If this is normal for cogs, I guess we will have to live with it but we certainly cannot do the 30 mile road tour in True/Wild Street and then make 3 passes. We had problems with a slipping 10 rib set up and after numerous people told us to run cogs, we made the swap. We will get 30 lb of boost and make a good number but this is getting too expensive.
I've talked to several people and I get recommendations from ditching the Vortech pulleys and go to larger Procharger ones (88/34T). Others have said that a 80T crank from Vortech might help too. We are to the point that we cannot keep throwing $$ at this thing in an attempt to see if it will work. Thee's got to be someone out there that makes 50mm cogs work in a car like ours. We are friends with Greg from Stickerdude and he has gotten over 300 street miles and 50+ passes out of his PC combo in the Jeep--are they doing something that Vortech can't??? Right now, I wish we had cancelled our season and sold off the blower and started a turbo conversion--although I know they come with their own set of problems. Anyone out there know what the answer is??
