ok heres the deal as always....I live a million miles away from anyone that can actually tune a EEC-IV computer with a chip (yea chris johnson lives within 65 miles of me but doesn't care to tune on 89-93 computers anymore) well fastforward to today. I have a chip burner who is willing to burn me a chip from my dyno sheet. (and yes its a FS car not a PS car, so) What are some basics I need to do to get started with a chip burn....??? I know for one I need to move up my rev limitor....no problem there. But what are some of the other things I need to do to my 9AL to get started. Turn off my EGR? Turn off my oxygen sensors?.......My chip burner guy can always do a reburn at anytime.....after dyno sheets, which I have no problem with, but with this new cam rule....I need a starting point...then I can tune from there. And NO I don't care to use a PMS from Anderson. Although it would be simple...I can do three or more burns with the deal I'm getting.....for the same price or cheaper.
Any input will be greatly appreciated

Well, with the PMS you have an infinite amount of burns.....

yea well I understand that.......but you cant control everything you can with a chip from my understanding. do you run the PMS on yours?
thanks

I'm far from an expert on the advantages of each, but the newest model PMS's are pretty nice...perhaps you should give Brian at AFM a call and get some details. It might be a better option in your situation because I don't know if you'll get where you need to be with only 3 opportunities to burn.
Then again, I haven't kept up on the latest tuning options...

an over the phone tune, in my opinion will NOT work. A shop that sponsors me(Excessive Motorsports) does ALOT of chip tuning and two identical cars have/will require diff tunes in the chip. Its def. not a one size fits all, and with the expense of these engines/travel costs I would not risk it.

the biggest problem I've found is getting someone to burn a chip "at all"! Or at least locally anyway. I've tried numerous times to get in touch with mike wesley, and several others, just so i could purchase the software to burn my own.........which I once had at one time, but hell it was in DOS....not a windows program. needless to say that program is long gone.......(a buddy and I went in together on it) and he has since long moved away, and I have no further contact with em.
If I just could buy the software to burn my own I'd be happy. I'm really not sure why the hell an Tweecer can't be used in FS for that matter.....but I havent seen it listed in our list of allowed tuners?

You can but the SCT setup to burn it yourself, I have one!
it will work only with your chip, so u cant burn others but it is schweet. I tried it as well as the EPEC on mine. BTW I took my car to Larocca's to have the EPEC tuned......sometimes u just have to travel.

I used a chip in my car and it didn't have much done to it. I have software to burn them also. Does your dyno sheet have an A/F ratio graft on it?

Gene,
I've yet to put it on a dyno yet, but there are around 5 chassis dynos locally. I was planning to run it on the one at Professional Engine, which is the one chris johnson used for many years before buying his own. If I remember correctly they do have the a/f graph but I'm not completely 100% sure. I may take it this Saturday for a baseline 3 pulls...and play around with the fuel pressure and timing...etc....if I do I'll know for sure then.

Are you going to run SD or Mass Air? We are going to Mass air, JPC has a Diablosport chip burner. Mike will be using an EPEC in his car. I will more than likely be using a Diablosport chip.....

LOL LOL, I wonder when you was going to chime in.....:D :p Since we have these radical cams, we are going to use mass air. Who knows we might run SD, too.....But that means finding somebody to burn another SD chip.....We now have the tools at JPC to burn mass air chips. Just can't wait to get our cams!!!!
