As some of you may have read, we had a catastrophic failure when working on the server. We lost a majority of the database even with backups. I will be working on restoring these forums with appropriate forums and sub-forums shortly.
I apologize for the loss of information and posts and threads that everyone was involved in.

Do what you can Frank.
We will all come back.
I have a couple of hundred gigs on my ftp server.
Not a T3 line but a steady 80KB upload speed.
Let me know if ya want me to do weekly backups for ya.

Frank, glad to see and hear you are resuming Stangcrazy. I replied to your post on the NMRA board and had a suggestion that may or may not help out. Have you tried using http://www.archive.org/ to see if you can get anything you need? I don't know if you are familiar with it or not, but it is a "time machine" where you can look back at how sites were a year or more ago. Maybe it will help. Good luck.

Thank you everyone, it has been very hard to swallow. It is another lesson learned, or at least that's how I have to view it to remain calm. Daily backups were suppose to be made for this type of failure, but that wasn't done. Backups I had made were erased when both of my PC hdd's failed. Then, the back-up I made before the OS change was incomplete, though the process proceeded and seemed to go fine.
I did lose some videos, but those can be re-done and well, I have a lot to do there anyway. The daily back-ups are now being done, as well as remote back-up. I have to now discipline myself to also doing manual back-ups and storing on media rather than just the drives.
I'll be doing a lot of work to return the forums and site to the SC look. We have slightly tweaked the graphics to make the layout a bit cleaner and compact.
I would like to personally thank everyone for supporting us through this. It is a difficult time and we're going to work through and come out stronger.

Shannon,
Thanks for the tip...the big loss was the SQL database for VBulletin. That's not something they would likely have as it's not public, but there may be some things there that can save me some time...

Frank, if you got partial backups of the DB, those are basically text based and you can reload some of the tables via mysql. I had to do that a couple of times years ago with MWF. It takes some time, but its better than starting over. Posts, threads, and user tables are most important.

Doug,
I was hoping to do that, but don't have the user or thread tables, and the post table is only partially complete...:(

Frank - if you need to do offsite backup's, I have about a half a terabyte of empty disk space on my RAID arrays. I'd be more than happy to give you an ftp access account to store that stuff so it is a safe offsite backup in the future. I know there isn't much more I can do to help you ressurect from the ashes, but I can offer you that easily enough...

Brian,
Thanks for the offer...I think I will be OK with the regular backups and off-site I have setup, but I will have to see how it all plays out and where we sit. I have to confirm that what I request to be done is being done. So, there is a possibility that something like that would be helpful.
Thanks again,
Frank
